Antalya is one of the top five destinations in the world

In 2012, the top five destinations in the world are Paris, London, New York, Antalya, and Singapore, according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization.

Antalya was the world's third most visited city by number of international arrivals in 2011, displacing New York.

A record 1 billion people will travel across an international border as a tourist in 2012, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council. 


The robust growth of international tourist arrivals in Southern and Mediterranean Europe (19% share of world tourism) was mostly driven by the larger destinations: Greece (+10%), Turkey (+9%), Portugal (+9%), Croatia (+9%), Spain (+8%) and Italy (+6%).




Turkey climbs one place to sixth in the ranking


The top 10 ranking by international tourist arrivals saw only a minor change in 2011. Turkey moved up one position to sixth place (with 29 million tourists) overtaking the United Kingdom. There were no changes in the top 10 ranking by tourism receipts.

Antalya received 11.3 million tourists in 2011



Antalya City Governor Ahmet Altiparmak reported that Antalya City received 11 million 291 thousand 931 tourists in 2011. In addition, the number of visitors who come to Antalya in 2011, approximately 12 percent increase over the previous year reported.

Altiparmak, said: "In 2011, 10 million 704 thousand 636 tourists came to Antalya by air, 196 thousand 278 tourists came to Antalya by sea.
 
Also, 391 thousand visitors entered to our city as transit. With transit entries, the number of visitors coming to our province in 2011 amounted to a total of 11 million 291 thousand 931. In 2010, the number of visitors coming to our city was 10 million 37 thousand 44. So, Antalya City became one of the first five cities where is most attractive cities in the world in 2011.

Antalya received 10.3 million tourists in 2010


Turkey's Mediterranean province of Antalya was the favorite holiday destination for tourists from Germany and Russia in 2010.   

German tourists visiting Antalya increased by 10.4 percent in 2010 compared to 2009, while the number of Russian visitors were up 16.6 percent, tourism officials told the Anatolia news agency on Thursday.

Last year, number of British tourists also rose by 37.9 percent compared to 2009, authorities said.

According to the Governorship of Antalya, the magnificent city of Mediterranean where is Antalya received 10.3 million tourists in 2010.

Visitors from Germany, Russia, the Netherlands, Britain and Ukraine preferred Antalya the most throughout the year.

The number of Swedish, French, Austrian, Polish, Norwegian, Danish, Kazakh, Swiss, Czech, Belorussian, Romanian and Iranian tourists were on the rise in 2010, officials noted.

Turkey's Mediterranean resort city of Antalya eyes to host 11 million tourists in 2011, head of a local union of hoteliers hassaid."We have set a target of 11 million tourists to host in Antalya this yearand I believe we will achieve that target,"Sururi Corabatir told reporters.Corabatir said the number of tourists visiting Antalya last year reached toaround 10.3 million, which marked a 11 percent increase over 2009.
