Antalya continues to be home to most foreigners in Turkey

More than one third of the total lots bought by foreigners in Turkey are in Antalya, according to recent research by ATSO.

Some 33.6 percent of the total number of foreigners living in Turkey have chosen Antalya as their permanent residence, according to a recent study conducted by the Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry, or ATSO.

The study indicated that foreigners own close to 30 percent of the property lots in the southern province of Antalya. The research, based on data from the General Directorate of Land Registers, showed that 29,691 lots were owned by foreigners out of a total of 103,051.

When taking into account shared ownerships as well, however, this figure reached 38,398 as of February 2011.

The largest foreign group in the province are the Germans, followed by Russians and citizens of other European countries.

Expats have mostly congregated around Antalya’s city center, along with the Alanya, Manavgat and Kemer districts.

Affectionately nicknamed as “new Antalya people” by locals, many foreign residents say the beauty of the city and the hospitality of its people were crucial factors in them choosing the southern province.
